“Torture”

I often paint by cultivating inspiration with patience and detachment. This piece is the antithesis of that. “Torture” was born from the decision to force creation when the flow wasn’t there. It is the result of pushing against the grain of my own process.

A multi-color base I never made peace with was used as an experiment, first shrouded in black, then re-exposed with strokes of a brush saturated in clear acrylic medium.

The final layer records the frustrations of fighting my own process. Hand-smeared paint and staccato finger percussion embody the energy of restlessness – the noise of an ego driven to perform, vibrating against that which requires no effort at all.
